Spurred on by the excellent results achieved in 2011 in China, the American fast-food chain Yum! Brands has decided to launch a major expansion drive, focusing particularly on the Chinese market.
In 2011, in addition to the 905 restaurants opened in France, Germany, Russia and South Africa, Yum! Brands opened some 656 restaurants in China. The group put in an excellent performance in this country, with sales up by 29% and operating margins by 15%. These results contributed to boosting worldwide sales through the company’s restaurants by 7% and its operating margins by 8%. They also offset the slide in sales experienced in the United States in 2011. We should therefore be seeing increasing numbers of KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell restaurants in China in 2012.
